'A' LEGION BASEBALL: Lums 16U team wins opener at Washington state 'A' tourney

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Brady Thompson struck out five in six innings and allowed one run as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen 16-and-under team beat the Pasco Sun Devils 6-1 in the first round of the Washington American Legion state "A" baseball tournament Saturday at Borleske Stadium.

Thompson also had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Lums, who play the Arlington 76ers today at 3 p.m. in a second-round game. Arlington defeated Sandpoint 11-1 on Saturday.

Levi Haen had two hits and two RBIs for Coeur d'Alene, and Michael Dooley had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

* At the Idaho "A" Area A tournament in Moscow, Coeur d'Alene was eliminated by a 6-5 loss to the Lewis-Clark Cubs.

Sandpoint lost 10-0 to Moscow in the semifinals, then was ousted by a 12-11 loss to Lewis-Clark.
