ASA: Xtreme 16U in quarters at Triple Crown tourney

RENO, Nev. - Kelsey Gumm allowed no earned runs in picking up the win in a 9-1 victory in four innings over the Northwest Sidewinders of Snohomish, Wash., on Thursday, for the North Idaho Xtreme 16-and-under ASA softball team.

Gumm won as the game was ended after four innings due to the eight-run mercy rule, in the first game of bracket play of the double-elimination Triple Crown softball tournament. The Xtreme played all of its games at Reno Sports Complex. The Xtreme, which is 4-1 in the tournament, scored three runs in the first inning.

The Xtreme plays today in the quarterfinals against the Colorado Invasion of Lakewood, Colo. The championship is on Saturday.

Kyla Stern went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Heather Hawkes went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Xtreme.

POOL PLAY

Xtreme 16U 3, North Cal Blast (San Francisco): On Wednesday, Xtreme starting pitcher Hannah Anderson allowed one earned run. Miranda Amos drove in two runs and Hannah Bell had a hit and an RBI.

Xtreme 7, Team Smith (Ariz.) 5: Riley Thompson went 3 for 3 with an RBI and Gumm went 2 for 3 with two RBIs on Wednesday.

Xtreme 5, SoCal Breakers (San Diego) 4: In the Xtreme's first game of the tournament on Tuesday, Amos went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Thompson went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Phoenix Heat 7, Xtreme 6: On Tuesday, Anderson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Bell went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
