On target
The Coeur d'Alene Bowmen archery club will hold its final 3-D shoot of the year Aug. 1 and 2 at Farragut State Park in Athol.
Registration for the Fall Warm-up and Fun Shoot begins at 6:30 a.m. each day. Everyone will be off the course by sundown Saturday, and the first course takedown will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Club President Paul Clock told The Press there are no trophies. It's "just a fun shoot for archers to practice, use a range finder or test their accuracy when judging distances."
The event offers real hunting conditions with 40 3-D life-size targets.
"There is a lot of skill involved in shooting a bow and hitting your target," Clock said, in a message to The Press. "Archery is a sport to be enjoyed outdoors. From our youngest beginners to the experienced archer, these shoots help improve accuracy, increase stamina and challenge them all."
Coeur d'Alene Bowmen describes itself on its website as a "family-oriented archery club, and children are welcome."
The club was established in 1955 and is chartered by the Idaho State Bowhunters Association, and members include bow hunters, target and recreational shooters. The group works to promote archery and works with other organizations to improve the archery season, hunting and outdoor life in Idaho.
Coeur d'Alene Bowmen host several 3-D shoots each year, and they are attended by 250 to 600 shooters from throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The cost to participate in the Fall Warm-up and Fun Shoot is: Adults (17 and older)/$15 for one day and $25 for two days; Youth (12-16)/$10 for one day and $16 for two days; "Cubs" (7-11)/$6 for one day and $10 for two days. "Mini-cubs" (under 6) are free. Group pricing for immediate family members is $35 for one day and $50 for two days.
