Asotin County gets $4.4M in grants

ASOTIN, Wash. (AP) - The Washington Recreation and Conservation office has awarded Asotin County almost $4.4 million in grants.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1CPinyx ) that the agency announced $110 million in grants Monday, with $4.4 million earmarked for Asotin County.

Of that sum, $4 million will go to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to help with a multi-phased purchase of a ranch along the Grande Ronde River. The property will allow hunting and fishing access as well as land for elk, deer and bighorn sheep herd.

Another $324,500 will go to upgrading the boat ramp and other facilities at Heller Bar on the Snake River to help with overcrowding. Other Snake River improvements include more than $61,000 to complete work on the city of Asotin's marina.
