AAU BASKETBALL
Showcase nears: Many of the top high school girls basketball players in the area will be on display later this week at the Summer Heat Showcase, an NCAA-certified women's basketball event, scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Spokane.
Most games will be played at The Warehouse, 800 N. Hamilton, with a handful of games scheduled for nearby Gonzaga Prep.
Local elite teams expected to compete are the North Idaho Elite, coached by North Idaho College women's basketball coaches Chris Carlson and Carey Carlson; along with the Spokane Sandpipers Black and the Spokane Stars Blue.
There will be an Elite and an All-Star division.
As it is a "showcase" event, each team will play four games against pre-determined opponents. Games will consist of two 16-minute halves. No champion will be crowned. Coaches from many of the top college programs in the Northwest and the West are expected to be on hand to evaluate players.
Admission is $9 per day, or $16 for a two-day tournament pass
Schedules can be found at www.warehouseathletics.com.
