Dorothy M. Deffenbaugh, 91
Dorothy M, Deffenbaugh, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015.
She was born April 19, 1924, on the homestead near Broadus, Mont., to parents Wesley and Barbara McLean. She had been married to Carl K. Deffenbaugh for 65 years when he passed away in 2008. Her two older sisters, Wilma Jarvis and Vera Allen preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Audrey Flanigan of Broadus; her five children, Linda Hansen of Coeur d'Alene, Mary Watson (Rocky) of Coeur d'Alene, Ronald Deffenbaugh (Jaclyn) of Anchorage, Alaska, Lonna Devora (Bernie) of Longview, Wash., and Jane Johnson of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
During the early years of their marriage, Dorothy and Carl traveled around Montana due to Carl's job at Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. Carl was eventually located in Great Falls, Mont., where they lived and raised their family for 20 years. After raising five children and retiring from Blue Cross of Montana, she and Carl traveled with a fifth-wheel travel trailer for 22 years. They traveled north to Alaska, throughout Canada, visited every state (some several times) and toured Mexico. She enjoyed a trip to Scotland with Carl, Ron and Jaclyn. This trip was especially treasured as she was 100 percent Scot heritage. During the years of traveling she continued to enjoy her passion of sewing, making queen-size quilts for each of her grandchildren as they graduated from high school. Her other hobbies included playing bridge, knitting and crocheting, and traveling.
Dorothy will be remembered for her ready smile, kind heart, her love of life and family. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at The Village at Orchard Ridge, formerly Coeur d'Alene Homes in Coeur d'Alene.
