Paddleboarding, where you stand on a surfboard with a single long paddle to navigate, is all the rage. Paddleboarders can be seen everywhere on our lakes and rivers. Some limber and adventuresome types have even taken to doing paddleboard yoga.

During a girlfriend retreat on Lake Coeur d’Alene we had the opportunity to try it out. While Raydeane, Jamé and Pam took right to it — me, not so much. Although I made it to an upright position my dismount was ungraceful. But I called rodeo rules and declared my 8-second ride a victory.

If Larry or Char Carstensen invite you to play golf you might want to ask who will round out the foursome. Their 9-year-old grandson, Preston Lightle, recently finished third in the Canadian National Future Links Junior Skills golf challenge held in Toronto. After winning the 9-11 age group for British Columbia, Preston was invited to the Junior Skills event to compete with Canada’s other 9-11 age group finalists.

In my other life as an actor with an agent, I received a request to audition in the role of a grandmother for a print and television commercial project at a Spokane production company. The day before the audition I was contemplating how a grandmother would look. In my Baby Boomer mind’s eye I thought of my own grandparents see who seemed quite elderly when I was a child. Then it occurred to me that I am a grandma and have been for years. So this is what a grandmother circa 2015 looks like, which is much different than the 1950s version. Problem solved.
