Xtreme second at 14U regionals at Ramsey
COEUR d'ALENE - The locally-based North Idaho Xtreme made a gallant run through the losers bracket before settling for second place in the ASA Region 15 14-and-under class "B" regionals Sunday at Ramsey Park.
The Xtreme won five straight games in the losers bracket - including two on Sunday - before falling 10-1 to the Lower Columbia Devastation of Rainier, Ore., in the championship game. Taylor Dow went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in the win, and teammate Kyla Howell was 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored. Halle Kane was 2 for 3 and scored the Xtreme's lone run.
Xtreme started the day with a 3-2 victory over the Capital City Crush of Salem, Ore. Kelsy Horn's single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Jaycee Brockhoff with the winning run. Emma Gray added a solo homer in the third inning for the Xtreme. Savanah Barehaus was 2 for 3 for the Crush, which beat the Bat Company of West Linn, Ore., in its final game Saturday (due to incorrect information provided to The Press, the Crush was reported to have lost that game).
The Crush finished fourth.
The Xtreme then scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead, then held on for a 6-5 victory over the Eclipse of Helena, Mont. Kane hit a two-run double in the seventh for the Xtreme, then snared a liner at third base and threw to first for the game-ending double play.
The Eclipse finished third.
