LEGION BASEBALL: Lums 16U squad wins 'A' district title

SANDPOINT - Michael Dooley went 3 for 4 with a key two-run double in the eighth inning as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen 16-and-under team beat Sandpoint 12-9 in eight innings Saturday to win the Spokane American Legion class Single-A district championship.

Coeur d'Alene won the best-of-3 series 2-0. Both teams had already qualified for the state tournament next week in Walla Walla, beginning Saturday.

Levi Haen had two hits and drove in three runs for the Lums, Jack Bloom had two hits and drove in two runs, and Blake English and Brady Thompson each had two hits.

Justin Bates pitched two scoreless innings of relief and earned the win. He entered in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, no outs and the game tied at 9.

Caleb Edlund and Walker Jacobson each had two hits for Sandpoint, and Austin Greene added a double.
