Vern Irwin, 71

| July 18, 2015 9:00 PM

On July 10, 2015, Vern Irwin passed away peacefully to the arms of our heavenly father.

Vern was born on May 13, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif., to his loving parents Vern and Della Irwin. He had a wonderful childhood full of warm memories growing up in Fontana, Calif.

After finishing school Vern served in the Army in South Korea specializing in communications and was proud to have served his country. Vern has a great love for the Hawaiian Islands and spent a few years enjoying the sun.

In the early '70s, he married Anita B. Cooper and moved to Idaho to raise his family. Vern worked for more than 40 years for the local Federal Building and after worked as security for them as well. Vern loved nature and going on camping trips, fishing, barbecues and watching his grandchildren's activities. Vern was always there to help anyone who needed it. Vern was devoted to his family as a loving father and was a true believer in God's word.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Della Irwin.

Vern is survived by his three sisters, Pam and Richard, Jackie and Doug, Tanis and Larry and their families. Vern is also survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Anita; and children Kevin Irwin and daughter-in-law Holly, Tanis Irwin, Tammy Croffoot and son-in-law Kevin Croffoot and Ryan Irwin. Vern had nine very special grandchildren and one great-granddaughter that he loved with all his heart.

My dad courageously battled cancer for two years and became a hero to his family. Vern will be greatly missed and never forgotten. My family appreciates the care and kindness he received from the Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene. Thank you to all the staff that took such good care of our precious father.

At Vern's request there will be no services. A private family service will take place at a future date. Please visit Vern's online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that a donation be made in Vern's name and sent to: Hospice House of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835, Memo: Vern Irwin/HH.
