Xtreme off to 3-0-1 start at invite-only tourney

IRVINE, Calif. - The North Idaho Xtreme 18-and-under fastpitch team is 3-0-1 after four of its six pool play games at the Champions Cup, a 96-team, invitation-only tournament.

On Wednesday, the Xtreme tied the Sorcerers from southern California, then beat the Orange County Batbusters, also from southern California, 2-0.

On Thursday, the Xtreme beat the Firecrackers from northern California 4-0, then pounded the San Jose Sting 14-3.

Breana Burke (Coeur d'Alene High) struck out five and scattered four hits for the Xtreme on Wednesday in the seven-inning tie with the Sorcerers. Martha Tooley (Eagle High) singled in Kylie Smith (Coeur d'Alene) in the first inning. The Sorcerers tied it in the fourth.

Against the Batbusters, Jadyn Behm (Coeur d'Alene) in the second inning, and scored on a suicide squeeze by Bryce Catt (Coeur d'Alene). Tooley homered in the third. Kayler Detmer (Twin Falls High) threw a shutout.

Burke threw a two-hit shutout for the Xtreme against the Firecrackers, and also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Smith was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Smith went 2 for 3 with five RBIs for the Xtreme against San Jose. Burke was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Behm and Tooley each were 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

The Xtreme finishes up pool play today, facing the Power Surge (northern California) and the Destroyers (southern California).

Pool play results are used for seeding into 96-team, single-elimination bracket play, which begins Saturday and ends Sunday.
