Classical choral music and traditional bluegrass will be performed together later this month in Coeur d'Alene.

Missoula's premier vocal ensemble Dolce Canto and award-winning bluegrass entertainers Monroe Crossing will present "The World Beloved" Saturday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Lakeside Ave.

This event is open to the public. No tickets will be sold but donations will be collected at the door.

Suggested donations are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

This collaboration features exquisite choral music and energetic bluegrass music performed with soul and inspiration. The program includes Minnesota composer Carol Barnett's "The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass."

"This unique work blends the traditions of the Catholic liturgy and classical choral singing with contemporary poetry and traditional bluegrass instrumentation. The result is an exhilarating musical experience," said a press release announcing the performance.

No strangers to the work, or to each other, Dolce Canto and Monroe Crossing shared the stage in New York City's Carnegie Hall in 2013.

Dolce Canto is an auditioned ensemble comprising professional musicians, music teachers, community members and students who share an enthusiasm for the choral art. Dolce Canto was showcased during the 2010 Northwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, is the 2014 recipient of the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award, and recently released its second CD, "A Joyful Season." Peter Park is the founding conductor and artistic director of the group.

Named in honor of Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass Music," Monroe Crossing performs a blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and heartfelt originals.

"Their airtight harmonies, razor sharp arrangements, and on-stage rapport make them audience favorites across the United States and Canada," said the press release.

Since the year 2000, the band has released 13 CDs and a live concert DVD and has made over 1,500 concert appearances throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. In 2007, Monroe Crossing was selected as an Official Showcase Band at the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass Convention in Nashville, and later that year, the band was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.
