Celebrate the future of Coeur d'Alene

The Coeur d'Alene 2030 Visioning Project will mark its second anniversary with a celebration today from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Riverstone Park.

This all-ages event is being held in conjunction with the Coeur d'Alene Arts and Culture Alliance, Global Credit Union Summer Concert Series.

"The greater Coeur d'Alene community has come together by the thousands to agree on a vision for our future. This has been made possible by the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers and visionary citizens," said Charles Buck with the University of Idaho and CDA 2030 project management, in a press release. "Please join the project team and your fellow citizens to say thanks to our volunteers, and to celebrate this exciting initiative looking toward our bright future, together."

Based on extensive community input and discussion, CDA 2030 created a comprehensive implementation plan to realize the project's long-term vision. The project continues to gather visionary input and support more than 40 lead partner organizations that have agreed to actively pursue this vision. Many of the project lead partners will be at the celebration with displays and demonstrations to inform the community of these efforts to achieve their vision.

The city of Coeur d'Alene will have an East Sherman booth at the event where attendees can vote on short-term efforts to help revitalize that section of the city. These ideas were gathered during two recent town hall meetings hosted by the city.

Some of the ideas the public will be able to vote on are:

* Additional landscaping

* Additional shade trees

* "No Panhandling" signs

* Open-air market with local food

* Outdoor, recreation-themed, event

* Back-in, angled, parking spaces

Everyone in the greater Coeur d'Alene community is invited to attend the CDA 2030 celebration that will also offer games, a giveaway, and entertainment by local singer/songwriter Robby French. Local vendors will also be on hand serving no-host adult beverages, soft drinks and food. CDA 2030 will provide free cupcakes and popcorn.
