Vandals' Rehkow

on preseason

Ray Guy Award watch list

University of Idaho junior Austin Rehkow is one of 25 players on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which annually recognizes the punter deemed the nation's best. Rehkow was one of three finalists for the award in 2014 and was on the watch list as a freshman.

His career average of 47.8 is the highest in the NCAA but he needs 36 more punts to make the official list.

He led the nation in punting as a freshman and finished second as a sophomore in 2014. Both seasons, he averaged 47.8 yards per punt, which put him atop the Idaho career average list. He was first-team all-Sun Belt Conference as a sophomore and the Special Teams Player of the Year for Independent schools as a freshman.

His 2013 average of 47.8 yards per kick is the NCAA Division I freshman record, as well as the NCAA record for punter who kicked a minimum of 75 times.

Rehkow is a two-time Walter Camp All-American - first team was a freshman and second team as a sophomore.

He also is the Vandals' placekicker - one of just a handful of Division I players to pull double duty as a freshman and sophomore.
