Thieves hit hookah lounge
DALTON GARDENS - Burglars allegedly smashed surveillance equipment and robbed a hookah lounge on Friday in Dalton Gardens.
The burglars destroyed several security cameras at Hubbly Bubbly, 6288 N. Government Way, and also damaged a motion sensor on the ceiling of the shop, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office report.
The break-in occurred between 2 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. The joint opens at 6 p.m.
Five cameras were damaged, with a total value of $250.
The thieves, or thief, snatched an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.
They also rifled through paperwork in the office, the report said. A store employee told authorities she believed cash was also removed from desk drawers in an office.
"There was also a large clear glass hookah sitting on a bench just inside the office that was knocked down and smashed on the floor," the report said. An employee said the hookah was worth $500.
An ATM was damaged after the thieves tried to pry it open to steal the cash inside. Despite the damage, it didn't appear to have been breached, the report said.
The ATMs estimated value was $4,000, the report said.
