Court rejects Horvath appeal
SANDPOINT - The North Dakota Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of a former Sandpoint man convicted of killing a man outside a strip club in the oil patch hub of Williston, the Associated Press reports.
Jonathan Horvath is serving life in prison without parole for the March 13 shooting that killed Derrick Spiegel, a 28-year-old Williston resident. Horvath moved to Williston from North Idaho to find work in the oil patch.
Horvath was convicted of murder, terrorizing and reckless endangerment. Horvath maintained that he intended to use the weapon to quell an argument, but it discharged accidentally, according to published news accounts.
Horvath appealed on grounds there was insufficient evidence and improper actions by a prosecutor. North Dakota's high court, however, rejected those arguments, AP reported.
