Herrera on fire, Hawks rout Indians

SPOKANE - Boise leadoff hitter Carlos Herrera went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs as the Hawks beat the Spokane Indians 11-2 on Sunday in Northwest League baseball before 3,073 at Avista Stadium.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Darius Day led off with a single, then came home in Leon Byrd's double to right.

Spokane scored another run in the eighth, when Byrd again doubled and Day again came around from first after a 1-out walk.

Boise starter Logan Sawyer threw seven innings of five-hit ball, allowing one earned run.

The Indians (9-9) host the Hawks (7-11) again tonight at Avista at 6:30.
