Helen Louise Horner, 66

| July 5, 2015 9:00 PM

Helen Louise Horner passed away early on June 24, 2015, following a long illness.

Helen was born on Aug. 23, 1948, in Lodi, Calif., where she grew up attending schools in Lodi and the Galt area. She is from a long list of California families that date back to before California was a state. She moved to Oceanside, Calif., in 1980 and resided there until 2006 when she moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Helen was an active member of Oceanside Gospel Lighthouse, and upon moving to Spirit Lake she attended church on the Solid Rock. Helen was also active in the Grandmother's Club, Spirit Lake Seniors. She served two terms on the Spirit Lake Seniors Board before her decline in health. She loved her church and all her friends in Spirit Lake.

Helen was very talented in baking and her crafts. She also volunteered for the Spay and Neuter Clinic. Helen loved cats ... and her companion cat-baby (18 years old) passed away prior to Helen.

To all who knew Helen, we smile as we remember how competitive she was at pinochle and an array of games.

Helen was solid in her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and had great peace knowing she left this world for a better place. Helen was a great friend to many - loyal, kind and faithful. She will be forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Helen was preceded in death by her mother, Willma Louise Horner Tyree (1923-1969) and her father, Johnnie H. Horner (1909-1959). She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Johnnie Lynn Horner and Edgar Dale Horner, both of Phoenix, Ariz. She is survived by three sisters: Peggy Cline of Clovis, Calif., Carol Hosmer and Melody Tyree, both of Antioch, Calif., and brother Larry Horner of Stockton, Calif., as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends and her other "sisters," Sandy Sammons and Gloria Robinson.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the Spirit Lake Senior/Community Center. Pastor Ken Ewing will be officiating, and there will be a luncheon following the service.

English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Helen's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
