POSTAL: United we stand, too

| July 3, 2015 9:00 PM

Since the unrealistic congressional 10-year mandate in 2006 for the U.S. Postal Service to pre-fund future retirees’ health benefits 75 years into the future, which by the way no other agency is required to do, the USPS has made an operational profit of $1.4 billion for the first five months of FY 2015. This is greater than the operational profit for full FY 2014.

I believe that the closing of post offices and delaying the mail is the result of that congressional mandate. Now, free trade agreements also passed by Congress threaten universal mail service to all Americans.

The Postal Service uses no taxpayer money, is an affordable delivery network for all postal customers and is the largest employer of military veterans.

We only want to have a positive impact on our communities through our public service to the American people and we need your continued support for that. We do more than just deliver the mail; we hold annual food drives, charitable fundraisers and we help the elderly whenever possible to name a few.

This great nation needs a strong Postal Service to unite our freedom.
