John Fernandez Mendonca, Jr., 89

Dec. 4, 1925 to June 25, 2015

John Fernandez Mendonca, Jr., 89, was born and raised in Hawaii. Born to John and Annie Mendonca, he was one of seven children.

John married Bernice Rita Neves in 1949 and they moved to California in 1957, where they raised their family. In 1988, they moved to Post Falls, Idaho, where Bernice died three years later. Later on, John married Patricia Otta who passed away in 2012.

John was a World War II veteran who belonged to the Elks Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. A warm and loving man, he always had a joke to tell and loved teasing friends and family. He loved potato bars, pizza and beer, and Hawaiian food. His dream was to one day return to Hawaii.

John was preceded in death by his wife Bernice in 1991, and wife Patricia in 2012. He leaves behind four children, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, two sisters; and a multitude of family and friends who will miss his warm smile and quick comebacks with all our hearts.

No formal services are being held as the family plans to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
