FIREWORKS: Keep a lid on them

| July 1, 2015 9:00 PM

Each year there are some who go out and spend a good amount of money on fireworks to offer a “private display” to friends and family. For many years this has been tolerated and authorities look the other way — not likely this year.

Save your money.

The conditions are so ripe for fire that authorities are stating no fireworks are allowed over land, and some public displays have even been canceled due to fire concerns.

This does not mean that individuals living or standing by the lake will be allowed to shoot off fireworks, as more than likely they are not trained to do so, and cannot guarantee some of those flaming torches won’t be blown over neighboring lands touching off massive fires.

BE AWARE THAT IF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CAUSING A FIRE, YOU ARE THEN ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE DAMAGE THAT FIRE CAUSES, INCLUDING YOUR NEIGHBOR’S HOME.

Every year we have a few people in the Carlin Bay area (near the Bar and Grill) that a few days prior to the 4th, on the 4th and a day after the 4th, shoot fireworks off. These are not just simple small sparklers and bottle rockets (also hot and very dangerous to dry brush) but are large explosive fireworks that reach into the sky and explode, sometimes NOT over the water due to winds. Whoever you are, take that money this year and spend it on something else; PLEASE stop with the fireworks.

Too many of us live around this area to wait with bated breath, once again, to have your display stop and know we luckily escaped a fire to accommodate a few people’s entertainment. It’s illegal, it’s dangerous, and it is very inconsiderate to place your neighbors at risk.

Plan this year to attend a public display that is being done with professionals with accommodating safety backup in place. This year could prove to be a disaster if individuals don’t follow the law.
