FALCON: Bigger tragedy averted

| January 21, 2015 8:00 PM

The woman who beat this pet falcon Hornet, which ended in his death, could have been seriously injured. If Hornet had not trusted people as his friends, this may have had a totally different ending. She wouldn’t have been able to just walk up to it; he would have reacted by taking flight and possibly attacking her. She was lucky in that respect because hawks of any kind can do a lot of damage — they are fast and they know how to instantly kill their prey. Normally you don’t mess around with this breed of bird without protection.

She deliberately found the bird and mortally wounded him. She was more than lucky that he was a very tame bird; they are smart and if he attacked her, it would have been to her exposed face. Her attitude as portrayed by her comments showed absolutely no sympathy for the bird’s owner. What she actually did was beat the bird to death. What kind of a person would beat a bird to death? It is quite unbelievable that she could use her energy in such a horrific manner, then brag about it to the man who owned the falcon.

I believe an effort should be made to locate this person. If everyone who has a camera phone and sees a red jeep driven by a woman would take a picture of the license plate and the woman and send it to the bird owner for identification or you know someone who might be involved with this kind of vehicle, we could see a community effort resulting in identifying this person. At the very least she should be made to pay damages for the loss of Scott’s pet.
