TRAGEDY: Spell it a-c-c-i-d-e-n-t

In reply to the letter from Dolores Aragon; I would like to remind everyone that that poor young mother had every right to carry a loaded and concealed firearm for her and her family’s (including the 2-year-old) protection.

I imagine that letters like that and like mine just increase the family’s remorse, regrets and yes, maybe even guilt.

We should think of the father who gave his wife the new purse “designed” for conceal carry.

I would ask, how does a person exercise their right to protect themselves and their family in the midst of “child-access laws?” Even a shoulder holster could be accessed by a fast, determined 2-year-old.

I looked up the specifications for the fire-arm that was involved and determined that the weapon did not have an external thumb activated safety per the manufacturer.

Although, of little relief to the family, this was an ACCIDENT. Was it preventable? I don’t know. Do I wish or pray that it couldn’t have happened. Absolutely. Could we prevent EVERY single accident from happening? I wish I could say yes, but in my almost 65 years of experience, I do not think that is possible.

I am very sorry that it happened and I pray for the family everyday, especially for the 2-year-old and the father, who have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

Let us put this issue to rest. Let us give the family their privacy to grieve and hopefully heal. Let us pray for them.
