Northwest style custom-made beers will highlight an attractive building (inside and out) at Daft Badger Brewing at 1710 N. Second St.

With special used brick and timbers, inside seating is for 40 at custom-made tables with a window to the brewery area and a timbered and covered pergola.

The 10-barrel system will process 20 barrels of beer (315 gallons) in one brew. Lunch and dinner options include house-smoked meats and cheeses, house-made sausages and "adventurous" salads and side dishes.

Darrell Dlouhy, Jake Capaul and Keith Bertram are the honchos of the new place two blocks west of Bistro on Spruce, near Slate Creek Brewing.

Daft Badger Brewing will open 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, with regular hours of 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Phone 665-9892.

Sandra Kay's liquidating

Women's clothing, jewelry, hats, purses and other accessories are on sale at Sandra Kay's, 308 Sherman Ave. After more than 36 years in the business, Sandra Kay is retiring with the store closing by the end of February.

A special feature of the place is the decor, also on sale. It includes many large photos and posters of celebrities of the 1960s such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis Presley.

Use store certificates or credit soon for best selection. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 667-1306.

Triple Play adding more fun

An illuminated laser tag arena and three-story (32 feet tall) ropes course are being added to the west side of Triple Play Family Fun Park at 175 W. Orchard Ave. (at Highway 95) in Hayden. The new areas should open in late February.

Located at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, Triple Play already offers an 860-foot go-kart course, mini golf, Raptor Reef indoor water park, bumper boats, 24 regular and duck-pin bowling lanes, a climbing wall for beginning to advanced, a children's soft-playground, an arcade, grill and an activity to get gemstones, fossils and arrowheads.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Check www.3play.com. Phone 762-PLAY (7529).

Now for the Tidbits

- Watch for news on the new STCU location at Winco Crossroads and Sola Salon Studios in Riverstone (the "coming soon" sign moved from near Starbucks to Main Street).

- Aaargh. Many cars don't have their lights on in fog or twilight. "But I can see you," they say. Yes, I have my lights on.

- "Look and see..." is redundant.

- I ran into NIC student Brandi Reasor from the mid-1990s. She said, "I remember you taught me how to spell 'judgment.' " Sigh.

- A geologist exploring an earthquake fell through no fault of his own.

- A real headline: "Iraqi head seeks arms."
