PLUMMER - Jordan Nilson had 11 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists, leading the Lakeside Knights past the Kootenai Warriors 55-46 in the 1A Division II District 1 championship game on Thursday at Ron Miller Court.
Lakeside (13-8) advances to its first state tournament since the 2004-05 season, when the Knights finished sixth in the 16-team 1A tournament.
The Knights will open the state tournament against Dietrich on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. PST at Caldwell High.
"Kootenai came to play tonight," said Lakeside coach Stacey Sonder, who is in his second stint as coach and ninth season overall. "They played us tough."
Lakeside trailed 42-39 at the end of the third, but outscored Kootenai 16-4 in the fourth quarter, pulling away on shots from Mike Huber - who scored six of his 10 points in the final period.
"Mike hit some key shots for us down the stretch," Sonder said. "Both him and Joseph Mitchell were really battling hard on the boards."
Huber had five rebounds, two steals, three assists and two blocks, Mitchell eight rebounds, two assists and three steals for Lakeside.
Morgan Willms scored 15 points for Kootenai, which finished 10-11.
