Garwood principal DeAustin earns distinguished principal award

B.J. DeAustin, Garwood Elementary's principal since 1993, has been named Idaho's National Distinguished Principal by the Idaho Association of School Administrators.

"He has amazing rapport with his students," said Lisa Sexton, Lakeland Joint School District assistant superintendent. "They light up when they have a chance to interact with him. He gives hugs and words of praise whenever the opportunity presents itself.

"The interaction between B.J. and his staff is much the same. The demonstration of high levels of trust and respect are clearly evident," Sexton added.

Katie Foresman, a current parent at Garwood and a former student of DeAustin's, added: "Mr. DeAustin is very dedicated to the children at Garwood Elementary. He has cultivated a unique environment at Garwood that is extremely desirable, and in my opinion, rare for a public elementary school."
