McEUEN: Depot doesn't fit in
Is there a train coming to McEuen Park? While driving to the library, I noticed what looked like a pair of large white railroad crossing arms without the red stripes.
My wife said the committee for design picked this monstrous design that looks like railroad crossing arms. I am told it has lights that can be seen at night time. If the park is open more during the day as far as use, who is going to see these lights?
So this committee picks the ugliest thing that does not reflect Coeur d’Alene history and pays someone out of state to make it. Apparently we do not have any local talent that could make something more appropriate.
I hate to waste taxpayer money, but I would be willing to spend more to put up something that reflects our history. Heck, even something made out of logs from the lake would look better than a pair of railroad crossing arms. I thought we were a logging town instead of a train depot.
Admittedly my wife says I do not have the best taste when it comes to these things (although I picked her), but I do know ugly when I see it. I see ugly every time I drive by to the library.
