March for Meals at the Post Falls Senior Center

The first Meals on Wheels program in the United States was started in 1954, by a caring group of individuals in Philadelphia, PA who wanted to support neighbors who had grown unable to shop for and prepare their own meals. This was a great concept of neighbors helping neighbors, in what has become a moving foundation to help those in our communities.

The Post Falls Senior Center delivers a nutritious meal, a safety and welfare check, and the smile that serves as the lifeline to the homebound and socially isolated seniors in Post Falls. This combination of service goes well beyond fighting the battle against hunger that threatens one in six of America's seniors. It provides the support and peace of mind that enables them to remain safe and securely in their own homes as they continue to age.

Meals on Wheels is an effective way to serve those in our community, with a proven public/private partnership that results in seniors being able to stay home and out of expensive nursing homes and hospitals that cost taxpayers billions of dollars in health care and medical expense alone.

During the month of March, the Post Falls Senior Center will be participating in the 13th annual March for Meals Campaign. It gives us all an opportunity to support our local senior center by making a contribution that will make a difference to - and touch the hearts of - your aging neighbors. During the month there will different speakers, along with educational pieces going on at the center. And, during the week of March 16th through March 21st, we will have many local elected officials, business and community leaders in to process, prepare, deliver and help us raise much-needed funds to keep our program going. We encourage any or all those wanting to get involved to please contact us at the Post Falls Senior Center.

On March 21st we will celebrate with our annual fundraiser, Gold Rush 2015! We ask that if you would like to participate in the evening events, contact us for tickets to a wonderful dinner by Garden Plaza of Post Falls, dancing sponsored by Knudsten Chevrolet to the local band the Rhythm Dawgs, and a great selection of silent auction items. This year's funds will be used to help with the additions to our building.

In the future we will be discussing more about the senior center and why it is not just a senior center. We offer so much more, and hope that you find this information both educational and helpful.
