5A REGION 1 BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT: Naccarato leads Viks past Lewiston
COEUR d'ALENE - Tony Naccarato had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the third-seeded Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the fourth-seeded Lewiston Bengals 65-49 in a loser-out game in the 5A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday at Elmer Jordan Court.
"Survive and advance is where we're at in the season," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "We played well in spurts and we played fairly careless in other spurts, but did enough to get a win. I thought Tony really picked up our energy in the fourth quarter and played with some energy. We played well enough to win, and any regional win is a good win."
Coeur d'Alene (15-8) travels to Lake City (12-10) on Thursday in the tournament's second-place game, with that winner advancing to a state tournament play-in game Saturday at Grangeville High.
"The last time we played them, they were super," Lundblad said. "For as bad as we were, they were equally good. We're excited to get another opportunity to play them, get better and hopefully get a 'W' and get out of there. (Lake City coach) Jim (Winger) and his staff have them playing really well right now. With the presence of their bigs, and the way that (Joe) Pasquale is shooting right now, we're looking forward to the challenge."
Brody Lundblad, Colby Daniels and Elliott Sparks had five rebounds each for Coeur d'Alene. Daniels scored 16 points for Coeur d'Alene.
Braeden Wilson scored 16 points and Chase Urquhart scored 14 points for Lewiston (9-14), which played without 6-foot-7 sophomore post Trystan Bradley, who missed his second straight game with an illness.
Lewiston finishes 9-14.
