Sandpoint advances to play Lakeland for 4A Region 1 boys title
COEUR d'ALENE - Carlos Collado had 15 points and nine rebounds, and the No. 2 seed Sandpoint Bulldogs withstood a 3-point barrage from Moscow in the second half, beating the third-seeded Bears 51-41 in a loser-out semifinal at the 4A Region 1 boys basketball tournament Monday night at North Idaho College's Rolly Williams Court.
Sandpoint (8-13) will play the top-seeded Lakeland Hawks (15-6) on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at NIC in the championship game for the region's lone berth to state next week at Borah High in Boise.
Moscow, the defending regional champs, finish 3-18.
Davan Norris added 10 for Sandpoint, which closed the game on a 13-2 run after Bryce Jerome hit Moscow's fifth 3-pointer of the second half to put the Bears ahead 39-38 with 4 1/2 minutes left.
Jack Akey scored eight of his 12 points in the second quarter for Moscow.
Sandpoint and Lakeland split during 4A Inland Empire League play, each winning on the other's home court.
