Update on found human bones

| February 19, 2015 6:34 AM

BAYVIEW — Kootenai County sheriff's detectives have received further information on the human skeletal remains that were found by a hiker in the Bayview area on Feb. 4.

The remains were transported by the KCSO to the King County (Wash.) Medical Examiner’s Office for assistance with possible identification.

The office said that preliminary results reveal the human remains were from an adult Caucasian male, possibly between 30 and 50 years old. It appears the person has been deceased for less than two years.

The King County ME's office was chosen to assist with the investigation because of its expertise and board certifications in forensic anthropology.

Sheriff’s detectives are keeping in contact with the medical examiner for updates, but are not expecting any significant results for several weeks as the investigation continues.

Dental records from the remains have been entered into the national database for missing individuals in hopes of further identifying the decedent.
