PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Pasquale, Lake City turn tables on Lakeland

COEUR d'ALENE - Lake City senior Joe Pasquale scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the third quarter to lead the Timberwolves past the Lakeland Hawks 62-51 in the nonleague regular season finale for both on Tuesday at Lake City High.

"Joe changed the game in the third quarter," Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. "He gave us the lift that we needed in the second half."

Lake City (11-10) lost at Lakeland (15-6) 68-35 on Jan. 30.

The win tonight just shows the attitude of the kids throughout the year." Reed said. "To come back and win by 11, they just don't quit. They come to practice and continue to work and keep grinding. It was a very solid team effort tonight."

Brandon Dotson had 15 points and seven rebounds for Lake City, which hosts Coeur d'Alene in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Friday at 7 p.m.

Tyrel Derrick scored 20 points for second-ranked (4A) Lakeland, which faces the winner of Monday's Moscow-Sandpoint game in the 4A Region 1 tournament championship game next Wednesday at 8 p.m. at North Idaho College's Rolly Williams Court.

KELLOGG - Gus Colburn scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats, ranked No. 1 in 3A, past the Tigers in an Intermountain League game at Andrews Gymnasium.

Vance Kistler scored nine points for Timberlake (5-15), which travels to Moscow on Thursday.

Chase Jerome scored 13 points for Kellogg (17-3, 6-0), which had earlier wrapped up the IML title.

On Monday, No. 3 seed Timberlake faces No. 2 Bonners Ferry at 4:30 p.m., followed by No. 1 Kellogg vs. No. 4 Priest River at 6:15 in the first round of the 3A District 1 tournament at North Idaho College's Rolly Williams Court.

HARRISON FLATS - AJ Becktel scored 15 points and Jake Sieler added 12 points for the Lumberjacks, ranked fourth in 2A, in a nonleague win against the 1A Division II Warriors.

Colson Schultz had 11 points and seven rebounds and Anthony Keogh had 12 points and five rebounds for Kootenai (9-9), which travels to Lakeside on Thursday.

"We played a pretty good game," Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. "We went through a stretch where we didn't get shots to fall in the first quarter, but started to hit some in the second. Defensively, I felt like we played a good game, but we need to take better care of the ball offensively. St. Maries is a very good team, and I thought we played well against them."

St. Maries (15-4) returns to action in the 2A District 1-2 tournament championship game next Monday at Deary High.
