Pedaling for a cause

POST FALLS - Here's your chance to get a workout and help the Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation in the process.

Guns and Hoses, an annual indoor charity ride to benefit the nonprofit that helps local emergency responders and their families in need, will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, at Peak Health and Fitness, 927 E. Polston Ave., Post Falls.

The fundraiser runs from 6 a.m. to midnight.

"There will be events going on every hour," said Post Falls Police Capt. Pat Knight, who is helping organize the event. "It should be a whole lot of fun for the family."

The event is open to the public and is not a fitness challenge. Participants raise funds and then bike for an hour or more during the relay.

Heath Wiltse, general manager of the Peak center in Post Falls, said the fundraising goal is to beat the $7,000 raised last year.

Events during the 16-hour event include, but are not limited to: a silent auction, a search dog demonstration at 11 a.m., movie at 1 p.m., police fingerprinting for kids at 3 p.m., ice cream at 4 p.m., dog show at 7 p.m. and dance contest at 10:30 p.m.

The memorial foundation also raises funds through an annual golf tournament and an event at Capone's Pub and Grill in Post Falls. It provides two college scholarships each year.
