Marlin (Daugherty) Maki, 68
Marlin "Papa" (Daugherty) Maki, 68, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away on Feb. 8, 2015.
Marlin was born in Kellogg, Idaho, on May 9, 1946. He grew up in Kingston, Idaho. In 1964 he married his childhood sweetheart Candi (Pemble) Griner in Pinehurst, Idaho. They were married for 50 years.
Marlin was a logger in his early years, and moved on to be a field service tech for Catapillar in Oregon for 34 years. He moved to The Dalles, Ore. area in 1975, then to Bend, Ore. in 1992, and back to Idaho in 2009.
He loved salmon fishing in Florence, hunting and working at the river property. He loved working and found that retirement wasn't his forte, he would rather have worked.
Marlin was a member of the Elk's Club for 49 years. He had numerous awards and accomplishments as a heavy equipment mechanic which also took him to many places, including Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Candi Maki; son Chris (Shelly) of Hayden, son Craig of Coeur d'Alene, and daughter Shannon of Coeur d'Alene; two granddaughters, Shayla Lynn of The Dalles, Ore. and Paige Lynn of Hayden; his parents William Maki of Wenatchee, Wash., mother June (Holand) Daugherty and stepfather James Daugherty of Cataldo, Idaho; and many brothers and sisters.
Marlin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The loves of his life are his granddaughters Shayla Lynn and Paige Lynn.
His greatest enjoyment was sitting around with everyone having a beer and telling jokes. The joy of his laugh and smile will be greatly missed. God bless you till we meet again.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Pinehurst Community Bible Church, 305 Main St., Pinehurst.
