HARRISON FLATS - Senior Jasmine Zahir scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds and the top-seeded Lakeside Knights advanced to state for the first time since 2004, beating the Mullan Tigers 35-22 in the championship game of the 1A Division II District 1 tournament Thursday night at Kootenai High.

"It feels really good; we finally found a way around that state play-in game (when Lakeside was in 1A Division I), because that's what really got us," Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. "It's very nice to finally go to state. (The players) are aware of how long it's been; we talked about how many teams had this opportunity. They were playing for more than just themselves."

Cailyn Dohrman had five points and eight rebounds for Lakeside (10-10), which advances to state Feb. 19-21 at Nampa High. The Knights open state Thursday at 12:15 p.m. PST vs. the second-place team from District 4.

Lillian Rhea had six boards, and Talia Hendrickx had six assists and five steals.

Zahir hit 4 of 4 3-pointers - two 3s in the second quarter, one each in the third and fourth. She was fouled on the one she missed, and made all three free throws.

"She had her best game of the year tonight," Dohrman said. "Mullan definitely tried to close off the inside on us, and her shooting opened things up."

Charli Sadler scored 17 points and five steals for Mullan, which finished 8-13.

"We game-planned to stay in front of her; honestly we played really good defense on her and she still scored 17," Dohrman said.

"It was a great defensive game," Mullan coach Sherry Leitz said. "My girls played hard until the last buzzer. Lakeside played great defense against us. It is hard to end the season like this, but my girls played some great ball this week. I'm proud of what they accomplished this season."
