Dwight E. Holbert, 86

| February 12, 2015 8:00 PM

Longtime Coeur d'Alene resident Dwight Holbert passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2015.

Dwight was born Jan. 23, 1929, to Ernest and Wilma (Weaver) Holbert in Gregory, S.D., and spent his early childhood in South Dakota and Montana before moving to Coeur d'Alene in the early 1940s. Dwight starred as a three-sport athlete at Coeur d'Alene High School.

Upon graduation in 1946, Dwight enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the K9 division of the Military Police, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and an honorable discharge in 1948.

Dwight earned an Associates Degree from North Idaho College and eventually turned that into a successful 37-year sales career with Goodyear Tires, retiring as district manager for commercial sales.

Prior to going to work for Goodyear, Dwight worked at a local sporting goods store, where he "scooped out" the attractive gal - Betty Anderson of Rathdrum - who was working in the shop across the street. Dwight and Betty were married on Valentine's Day in 1954, and remained sweethearts ever since. They raised three children - Debbie, Don, and Diane - in Coeur d'Alene, and for a few years in Montana when Dwight took a transfer to Great Falls. They returned to Coeur d'Alene in 1974.

Dwight was an avid golfer his entire adult life. He was an original member of the Coeur d'Alene Golf Club, and was one of the hard-working volunteers who helped make the course a reality for the community back in the early 1950s. Dwight also enjoyed fishing and hunting with family members, spectator sports, dancing with his bride, and a good western.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Betty; children Debbie Schmitt, Don, and Diane Corsi and their spouses; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly missed by all of them.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Bell Tower Funeral Home, 3398 E. Jenalan Ave., Post Falls, Idaho.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Shriner's Hospital in Spokane.
