Pat Harger, 50

| February 8, 2015 8:00 PM

Patrick Henry Harger, 50, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away Feb. 2, 2015, of kidney failure.

Patrick was born Oct. 18, 1964, in Great Falls, Mont., to Agnes O'Reilly Harger and William "Bill" H. Harger. Pat attended public schools in both Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

While growing up in Spokane he was an active Boy Scout, a popular and excellent student as well as a gifted athlete who participated in baseball and basketball programs, and was recognized for his good sportsmanship.

As a teen, Pat switched his musical passion from violin to guitar. Playing Christian music helped sustain Pat through many years of coping with schizo-affective disorder which struck him as a young man. Pat's study of great leaders and world religions led him to write detailed volumes of a Code of Honor which he considered his greatest accomplishment. Faced with the difficulty of his long illness, Pat's parents extended their undying devotion beyond caring for their son to become active in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), providing support and advocacy for families suffering mental illness.

In addition to his parents, Patrick is survived by his siblings Bill White of Anchorage, Shawn Harger of Coeur d'Alene, Marc Harger of Cheney, Julie Cordero of Spokane, and Lori Harger of Tucson. Additional survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Patrick was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Master, Coeur d'Alene, where a celebration of his life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Master, Hospice of North Idaho, or the Coeur d'Alene affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
