William Edward Osterman, 99

| February 7, 2015 8:00 PM

William Edward Osterman went home to be with our Lord on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, with his wife, Georgie, his two daughters Wendy and Jeri, his granddaughter Sari (whom he called 'little chocolate face') and Pastor Terry by his side, singing and praying at North Idaho Hospice.

William was born Dec. 20, 1915, to his loving parents, Bert Sr. and Esther Osterman. He had one brother, Bert Osterman Jr.

William married Betty Carol Rowley and shortly after joined the Air Force, where he went to cadet school and became a pilot and bombardier. He returned home in 1945 and had daughter Wendy Esther Osterman. William then started his company, Sunset Pools, in Redwood City, Calif. He was in the finance business and became a CEO for a cosmetic company, and started a few companies in California and Europe.

In 1953 William had a son, William Richard Osterman, and in 1955 had daughter Cynthia Ginny Osterman. William then divorced Betty Rowley Osterman and married Helen Ryan on Feb. 15, 1956. William continued with his businesses. Helen had three children: Thomas Ryan, Diane Ryan Schimdt, and Christine Ryan.

In 2005 Helen passed away, and William moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, to be with his daughter Wendy and granddaughter Sari. William loved playing cards with Sari, fishing, hunting, golf and basketball. William left his granddaughter Sari with the valuable lesson he was always reminding her of, "Whatever the mind of man can dream and believe, he can conceive."

William loved the Idaho life of retirement and always said he caught the largest fish in the lake. In 2011, William met Georgia Stewart and they were married in 2012. They loved to dance, play pool, play bingo and enjoy life. They had three wonderful years of marriage and happiness. Georgie took wonderful care of William and brought him much joy in his last years of life. Georgia had two children, Georgia (Jeri) Franklin and Jim Stewart.

William was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bert Sr. and Esther Osterman; his brother Bert Osterman, Jr., step-daughter Diane Ryan Schmidt; Betty Rowley Osterman, and Helen Ryan Osterman.

William is survived by his wife, Georgia Osterman; daughters Wendy Osterman Lipp (Jerry) and Cynthia Osterman Stogrhen (Tom); stepdaughters Christine Ryan and Georgia (Jeri) Franklin; son William Osterman (Sylvia); stepsons Thomas Ryan (Sarah) and Jim Stewart; grandchildren Sari Lipp, Dr. Stacey Sype (John), John Sullivan (Joanna), Shannon Stohlgren (Steve), Conner Stohlgren, Michael Stohlgren, Joel Osterman, and Luke Osterman; step-grandchildren Kelsey Ryan, Thomas Ryan and Daniel Ryan; great-grandchildren Jake Sype (Grandpa loved chasing Jake pretending he was a monster, and count his change), step great-grandchildren Hannah Sullivan and Alexandria Sullivan.

William's family would like to thank the staff at North Idaho Hospice for the compassionate, tender care that was extended to William during his last days. We would also like to extend a thank you to Pastor Terry for coming to sing and pray with William during his last hours. It is greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Garden Plaza, 545 N. Garden Plaza, Post Falls, Idaho.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
