Blazen Divaz to recruit new members
COEUR d'ALENE - A group of young-at-heart women seek new members who would like to shine like stars.
The Blazen Divaz, an Inland Northwest group founded in 2009, encourages women ages 18+ to come to its new member information meeting and sign-ups at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Peak Health and Wellness Center, 190 W. Centra Drive, Hayden.
Information on the Coeur d'Alene Fourth of July, 2015 Hollywood Christmas and 2016 Pearl Harbor parades will be presented.
Just two months after a successful East Coast appearance, the Blazen Divaz have been selected as the official ambassadors from Idaho in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on Dec. 7, 2016, marking the 75th anniversary of the "day that will live in infamy" - the attack on Pearl Harbor - in Honolulu, Hawaii.
In addition to representing the state of Idaho, the dance group will also proudly represent the veterans of the World War II battleship USS Idaho.
In keeping with the parade's theme of "remembering the past, honoring the future," each of the Blazen Divaz will wear a button on their costume carrying the photo of a veteran they wish to remember. In this way, the veterans will be marching in the parade along with the Blazen Divaz. The parade will be nationally televised.
The Blazen Divaz have also accepted an invitation to star in the 2015 Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday, Nov. 29 in Hollywood, Calif. Traveling to Hollywood and dancing down the longest red carpet in the world is especially fitting for the Blazen Divaz, with their proclivity for glamour, glitter and bling.
The historic Hollywood Parade inspired 1946 Grand Marshal Gene Autry to co-write the holiday classic "Here Comes Santa Claus" (Down Santa Claus Lane). Other past Grand Marshals include Charlton Heston, Arnold Schwarzenegger, William Shatner, and - in 2014 - Stevie Wonder. In its 83rd year, this star-studded extravaganza is televised on the Hallmark Channel.
Both the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade are evening performances, at which the Blazen Divaz shine and delight audiences with their innovative use of LED technology incorporated into their costumes.
The Blazen Divaz believe in the restorative powers of group exercise and camaraderie with the goal of spreading cheer through event and parade participation. Membership is flexible and affordable, and routines adaptable to meet each woman's ability. The Blazen Divaz believe in the beauty of each woman amd allow each member to shine like the star that she is.
The Blazen Divaz delight audiences with innovative costumes custom designed by the Blazen Divaz' own talented sewing team. Costumes are new each season, and often feature innovative LED technology that make the Blazen Divaz shine in evening events.
Practices are held at Lake City High School in Coeur d'Alene and Peak Health and Wellness Center in Hayden.
