Top-ranked Timberlake tumbles in overtime
SPIRIT LAKE - Despite 32 points from sophomore Allison Kirby, the Timberlake Tigers, ranked No. 1 in 3A, suffered their first Intermountain League loss of the season, 68-63 in overtime to the visiting Bonners Ferry Badgers on Tuesday.
Savannah Woods and Jasmine Hill each scored 17 points for Bonners Ferry (11-9, 3-3 IML). Timberlake (16-3, 5-1) had already wrapped up the IML title and the top seed to the 3A District 1 tournament, which begins Monday at North Idaho College.
Bonners Ferry rallied from six points down after three quarters to take the lead in the fourth. Timberlake came back to tie it, but was unable to get off a shot in the final seconds of regulation.
"They played harder than us in the second half," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "It was the first time all season my group has been outworked in a half, and they outworked us, plain and simple, in the second half. Their work ethic led to some easy buckets for them."
Timberlake is without returning first-team all-state selection Keelie Lawler, out indefinitely with a concussion, but "I still thought this was one we shouldn't have let get away," Miller said. "They (the Badgers) shot the ball really well; they deserved the win."
Timberlake wraps up the reguar season Thursday at home with a makeup game vs. St. Maries at 6:30 p.m.
