Steven Schmidt, 56

Steven Duane Schmidt, 56, passed away Dec. 27, 2014, in Chicago, Ill.

Steve was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Jack and Lois (Leighty) Schmidt. As a young man, Steve was involved in Boy Scouts, the Coeur d'Alene High School marching band, Bethel Baptist Church, and Youth for Christ. During this time he committed his life to Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

Steve graduated from North Idaho College and Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Ill. He served God faithfully in several churches in the Chicago area. He was employed by Dahlstrom Display, Chicago, as a printer for more than 20 years.

Steve was devoted to his family as a loving father. He is survived by his wife of five years, Debbie Schmidt; children Stephanie (Brad) Toms and Joe Schmidt, all of Chicago. He is also survived by parents Jack and Lois Schmidt; sisters Lori Kobs, Lisa (Paul) Spears, and Lynette (Mark) Woodworth; nephews Andrew Woodworth and Ian Spears; nieces Alexis Spears, Aubrey Woodworth, and Alysse Woodworth; four stepchildren, and eight step-grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by grandparents Jake and Elsie Schmidt, and Kenneth and Stella Leighty.

He battled cancer courageously and is a hero to his family. Steve will be greatly missed.
