Let your mind help you achieve your goals in 2015
With the New Year here, it seems each year flies by a little faster as I find myself looking towards the future and what I want to accomplish in 2015. If you have read any of my articles, you know that I am a big fan of planning my destiny and not letting myself be pulled into reactionary mode from the current day's events. Each year, I look for opportunities to move me out of my comfort zone. I feel it is very important to believe in yourself, and sometimes, it is as simple as finding someone that has done what you want to do, and did it exceptionally well. You can then model what the person did in order to achieve your goal. Say for instance, you want to participate in an Ironman race one year from now. Find someone who has successfully trained and participated in the race and study what they did - food prep, exercises, daily schedules, etc. - so you can get laser-focused on a proven path to pursue. This person will give you the "recipe" for success if you are willing to listen and commit to a plan of action that you can immediately get started on.
The same goes for anything you set your mind to.
I believe that you create success from your belief system. Once you master that system, you can't help but achieve impressive results. Here's my summary of how I see this belief system working. The first belief is that everything happens for a reason. The second is there is no such thing as failure, only lessons to be learned. In effect, if you get handed lemons, make lemonade, and learn while you're making it! The third belief is that you don't need to be an expert at whatever you're doing; you just need to head in the right direction and recruit a team to help you get there. Your team is valuable, and will get you where you want to go much faster than trying to do it alone. Finally, those who are most successful view their work as their hobby. They are so immersed in what they are doing that they feel they don't have a job, they just follow their passion. My husband is one of those types of men. I would always ask the kids as they were growing up, "Would you rather have a Dad who would slay dragons for you, or one that sits on the couch waiting to be served?" To me the answer has always been simple. The most important belief is commitment. When we decide that we are going to do something, we give it a thousand percent and eliminate from our mind any chance of failure, because we will work and adapt until we succeed.
To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."
