Everett Lamar 'Rocky' Bridges, 87
Everett Lamar "Rocky" Bridges, 87, died on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, of natural causes at the Hospice of North Idaho Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In life, Rocky was one of a kind, now he has rounded third, and is headed for home.
Rocky was born on Aug. 7, 1927, in Refugio, Texas, to Everett Lamar and Annette Edith (Franz) Bridges. He grew up in Long Beach, Calif.
Rocky signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, and made his debut in the Major Leagues in 1951 with the same team. He played for several teams throughout his 11 year career, including: the Cincinnati Reds, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Washington Senators, the Detroit Tigers, the Cleveland Indians, and in the end - the Los Angeles Angels. He was known to play second and third base, and shortstop. After his playing days ended, Rocky went on to a long career coaching and managing in the minor leagues, retiring after a 50-year career in professional baseball.
In 1952 Rocky married Mary "Buddy" Alway, also of Long Beach. In 1970, they moved with their four children from Long Beach to just outside of Coeur d'Alene, settling in Wolf Lodge. Together, Rocky and Buddy enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and golfing. They also supported their grandkids by going to their events. Rocky was well known throughout the community.
Rocky was preceded in death by his wife, Buddy, in 2008. He is survived by his daughter Mindy, her spouse Rick Galbraith, and their children Scott, Molly, and Sara; his son Lance, his spouse Becky, and their children Ben and Bill; his son Cory, his spouse Debbie, and their children Kelli and Trent; and his son John, his spouse Teresa, and their children Brock, Cody, Tyson, and Zack.
Rocky's family deeply appreciates the care and kindness provided by Hospice of North Idaho, Comfort Keepers, Steve and Terri Anderson, Harold and Pam Nordby, and Brenda and her team at J.B.'s.
A private service will be held on Feb. 14. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho at 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho, 83835.
