Volunteers sought for North Idaho Veterans Stand Down
COEUR d'ALENE - Volunteers are sought for the 22nd annual North Idaho Veterans Stand Down on May 9 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is held annually to provide services to homeless and disadvantaged veterans in the five northern counties.
The Stand Down is a St. Vincent de Paul event supported by American Legion Post 143, VFW Post 889, Elks Lodge and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Services from organizations that provide medical services, dental services, housing, clothing, food assistance, haircuts, massages and bike repair will be available.
Heritage Health will provide medical and dental screenings for families of veterans and non-qualifying veterans. Businesses that have job openings will be taking applications. A hot meal will be served to all veterans, volunteers and service providers.
Military surplus will be part of the event, but due to a new VA mandate, surplus will only be distributed to homeless veterans.
Those interested in volunteering should register at www.kootenaiunitedway.org or by calling Connie Clark at 660-2030.
If you would like to donate, make checks to the North Idaho Veterans Stand Down, c/o St. Vincent de Paul, 201 E. Harrison Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814.
