STCU, the Inland Northwest's largest credit union, will open its 18th branch at the Crossroads-Winco Center on Monday.

Located in the northeast corner of Ramsey Road and Appleway, the new building has three drive-throughs and three ATMs. It's the fourth STCU branch in North Idaho. Founded in 1934, STCU has more than 130,000 members and $2 billion in assets.

Key people in the new branch are manager Laurel Rollins, assistant Tanya Yost, member relationship officers Andrea Marich, Katie Scardina and Tina Carney and advocates Brie Gabourie and Kara Chichester - with a combined 86 years of banking experience and average 23 years residence in Idaho.

Lobby hours at Crossroads are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 to 6 Fridays, and drive-through hours are 8 to 5:30 Monday through Thursday and 8 to 6:30 Fridays. Phone 619-4000. Check www.STCU.org.

Garden Terraces under construction

Seven luxury townhomes with contemporary Northwest design are being built on the corner of Second Street and Garden Avenue near downtown Coeur d'Alene.

The residences feature three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms in 2,000-plus square feet with high-end finishes, stainless steel appliances, gas fireplaces, engineered hardwood, granite countertops, multiple outdoor decks, landscaped front yards and attached two-car garages. Prices range from $395,000 to $409,000.

"These townhomes will truly give their owners luxury and location with minimal maintenance," said Emily Beutler, real estate agent. Check www.127egardenave.c21.com. Phone 818-2708. Email emily@21goldchoice.com.

Now for the Tidbits

- Watch for news on a new dining room at Domino's Pizza, a new MOD Pizza in Crossroads, Paint Buzz (combining painting classes and beverages) in Riverstone, Massage Envy in Ironwood Square and Sola Salon Studios in Riverstone.

- Taco Time has closed in Silver Lake Mall.

- This is a special sports week for this character. With the death of baseball legend Ernie Banks I recall covering the Chicago Cubs on home-game Sundays for the Waukegan News-Sun. On my last game there in 1970, they threw me in the shower and gave me an autographed ball (with Ernie on it).

- Ah, and the Seahawks are in the Super Bowl today. I saw their first home game in 1976 when I was sports editor for Fournier Newspapers in the South Seattle suburbs. Sigh. My cousin Harrison (Hatch) Rosdahl (6-5, 250) was a defensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs when they lost to Green Bay 35-10 in Super Bowl I in 1967.

- Sport event scores are always numerals, not words. And the winning score goes first even if your team lost. Maybe today the Seahawks will win 24-14.

- The hot, hungry soldier decided not to desert his dessert in the desert.

- A real headline: "Blind woman gets kidney from dad she hasn't seen in years."
