| December 30, 2015 8:00 PM

Irma “Elvessa” (Walters) (Gill) Groscost passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Dec. 25, 2015. She was born to Anna Pearl McCallum and Delmer E. Walters on July 20, 1922, in Cowles, Neb. The family moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1935.

Elvessa graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1939. She married Lyle David Gill on Aug. 25, 1944, in San Francisco, Calif., while he was in the U.S. Navy. Lyle preceded her in death in April 1967. This union produced three children. Elvessa later married Edwin M. Groscost in Coeur d’Alene on June 27, 1968. He preceded her in death in March 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She is survived by three children: Leroy (and Kathy) Gill of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, Aleta (Gill) Anderson of Post Falls, Idaho, Janice (and Robert) (Gill) (Pointner) Christopherson of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren: Tami (and Jay) (Gill) Ross of Athol, Idaho, Kim (and JD) (Gill) Pape of Dillon, Mont., Amber Anderson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Corey Anderson of Bozeman, Mont., and Joel (and Miranda) Christopherson of Castle Rock, Colo. She is also survived by nine great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. One granddaughter preceded her in death in 1989. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Elvessa enjoyed gardening (flowers and vegetables), canning, sewing (everything from boat tops/snowmobile bags to wedding dresses for friends and family), needle crafts (knitting, crocheting, embroidery, etc.), miscellaneous crafts, china painting, and travel. Her mother often said that Elvessa took on the most difficult projects as a beginning project. She has knitted and crocheted numerous afghans for herself, family and friends.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all and will be greatly missed.

She was active with the Boy Scouts when Leroy was young and with Camp Fire Girls with Aleta, Janice, and granddaughter Amber.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in her name to Boy Scouts of America, Camp Fire (formerly Camp Fire Girls), or to your favorite charity.

The family wishes to thank the kind and loving staff of Country Comfort Residential Care of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho who cared for her during her last three years.

English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
