COLUMN: Forgive them, Michael

| August 26, 2015 9:00 PM

Reading the My Turn article by Michael Paul leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for how he has been treated by some in our community. Here is a man who served and suffered for our country being treated like an enemy. If what he says is true — and why should I doubt it? — this man is a patriot and a true American hero.

Our community made a stand against racism with the Aryan Nations. I was proud of those who put them out of business and rid our community of a repulsive culture. Now I read about an instance of racism that is based on ignorance and fear. A person is condemned because of his race, without knowing anything about him.

Yes, Islam is a violent and hate-filled religion, and the possibility of Muslim refugees being planted in our community is something we must be aware of and should be investigated. However, everyone with an Iraqi appearance is not necessarily a Moslem. Michael Paul is a Christian who still loves the people of his homeland and works tirelessly for their salvation. Look him up on the Internet if you have any doubts.

Michael, I apologize for your treatment by a few of my fellow citizens. They do not know the way of the Lord.

I quote Jesus’ words in Luke 23:34 “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do….”

Be assured that there are many who appreciate you and what you are doing.
