“In the first game, I thought our pitchers threw very well,” Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. “Offensively we had a lot of hard-hit balls. There are a few things we need to work on offensively. Our pitchers kept us in the first game. Defensively, we played pretty solid.”

BONNERS FERRY — Five errors hurt the visiting Tigers as the Badgers went on to win their second Intermountain League title in school history, and first since 2007.

With runners at first and second, Shay Garcia of Bonners Ferry (14-6, 8-1) singled to center to score the first run of the game. The ball was misplayed, allowing a second run to score. Garcia scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead.

Two throwing errors by Timberlake (11-9, 5-3) in the fifth inning led to two more Badger runs.

Timberlake had won or shared the league title every year since 2010.

“They have a great program year in and year out,” Bonners Ferry coach Tom Turpin said of Timberlake. “This is a special group of kids we have; it just means a lot being the second team to reach that goal.”

Josh Lampert walked leading off the fifth for Timberlake, and scored on a two-out double by Jarrett Plunkett.

This year, the league champion gets to host the 3A District 1 tournament. On Monday in Bonners Ferry, No. 1 seed Bonners Ferry plays No. 4 Priest River at 2 p.m., followed by No. 2 Timberlake vs. No. 3 Kellogg at 4. The winners play Tuesday for a trip to state; the losers can still come back to earn a spot in a state play-in game.
