Meet the candidates

| April 28, 2015 9:00 PM

The Coeur d'Alene Education Partnership will host a School District 271 Trustee candidate forum, moderated by The Coeur Group.

The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the Community Room at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library. Refreshments will be provided.

CEP President Nancy Hart said in a press release that members of the independent, nonprofit public education advocacy group are excited to be hosting another trustee forum.

"We received excellent feedback on the last candidate forum we hosted. Community members appreciated dialogue that was insightful and helpful, and the candidates found the forum to be a refreshing opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions in an open and non-partisan format," Hart said in the release. "We're also thrilled that The Coeur Group accepted our invitation to moderate the forum again this year. Their expertise in moderating unbiased candidate forums is well respected."

Jimmy McAndrew, co-founder of the Coeur Group, said members are pleased to be invited to moderate the forum.

"We anticipate a lively dialogue with the candidates about current topics on education in our community," McAndrew said in a press release.

The Coeur Group will have complete discretion over the questions asked of each candidate. Question suggestions will be accepted from the community and can be sent to 271forum@gmail.com.

Some of the questions may also be selectively chosen by a member of The Coeur Group from live Twitter feeds.

The format will be similar to a debate. Each candidate will be given opportunities for an opening and closing statement and will have a timed response to each question asked.

Tambra Pickford and Terri Seymour, the trustee candidates of Zone 3, have both agreed to participate. Casey Morrisroe was the only individual to file for candidacy from Zone 2. Incumbent Tom Hamilton is not seeking another term. As an unopposed contender, Morrisroe will automatically take office on July 1 without an election.

Neither the CEP nor The Coeur Group take positions in local political issues or endorse candidates. However, both organizations are passionate about keeping the community informed about all issues educational. The goal of this event is to provide opportunity for fluid conversation and for each candidate to connect with the community.

The general public, parents, teachers, students, and all community stakeholders are encouraged to attend. The event will be recorded for re-broadcast on CDA TV Channel 19 for those unable to attend.
