OSPREY: Get a bird's-eye view

| April 26, 2015 9:00 PM

Just a quick note to extol the virtues of the osprey cameras. We just happened to check on them because we walked by the one closest to Tubbs Hill last Saturday and saw some action.

Sunday morning I checked and saw two ospreys in that nest and on the other nest a goose had been nesting for quite a while, but this morning there were two adult geese. Dad took off then, Mom stood up and we could see some yellow fuzzies from where she had been. Then, with a “watch me” kind of look, she took off and we saw that there were six little goslings … within a minute, two just went to the edge and took off, then one other left, within another minute two others left and then there was one. He didn’t like anything about what was happening and walked, wobbled and generally squawked for a few minutes. Then, just like Butch and Sundance, he flew.

We hightailed it over to the park to see the family all gathered, but apparently the folks had other plans. Swimming lessons, probably, because the flying lessons had worked so well.
